Editorial Design | Narrative & Curatorial Photography
Project Brief
Required to create a panoramic layout that photographically illustrates a narrative that highlights one or more visual qualities. These qualities may include shape, texture, pattern, colour, and tonal values. The photographic sequence should consist of images that articulate a narrative without telling a literal or obvious story. The visual sequence should remain an abstract piece. Thus, the photographs should all be different and seemingly random when placed together, however, upon closer examination, these photographs should reflect that they are connected by similar traits or narrating an abstract ‘concept’.
Project Deliverables
| A unique series of five images presented on a single canvas, consisting of three documentary photos and two fashion photos
Design Strategy
The approach to this photography project began with the exploration of documentary photography by focusing on capturing everyday moments and objects. Through building up a collection of documentary photos, which informs that the narrative series focuses on visual qualities like shape and form, as well as texture or pattern. These documentary shots then proceed to apprise the fashion photography by composing these images to include a visual quality that bound them to the documentary images. Thereafter, the curation of the final layout was created by selecting documentary images that complimented the fashion images and carried through similar visual qualities of shape and texture to create a narrative in the photographic series.
